Lowell’s recollections of the Pressroom
Oral History by Lowell, 1961
We are not certain when our father started working for Phillips and Van Orden. Lowell thought that he first worked for a company in San Francisco that was bought at least twice which changed its name. Our father worked for O’Brian when he first arrived in the area. This included printing a newsletter for the Union in the Longshore Union’s strike.
The first pressroom Lowell saw was at the Rotary Color Print company in the Blake, Moffet and Town building. He thought the name changed to PVO when they moved to the building by the bay, 4th and Townson. Lowell worked there in the mid-50s. When William turned 65 the plant moved to San Jose.
