Frances Rachel Gray
1903-1989

Our mother’s only sibling was Frances Rachel Gray. She was born on 28 Feb 1903 in Clovis, Fresno County, California, the oldest child of Francis Pinkney Gray and Bertha Thompson. Aunt Frances married Amos Truman Hand in 1931 in Modesto, California. They did not have any biological children, but adopted Charles Hillis Gray, who tragically only lived until the age of 22. Frances died in Modesto, California on 11 Sep 1989 at the age of 86.

Frances and her Teaching Career

Frances was a teacher and then principal at the Gratton School in Gratton, Stanislaus County, California, for many years. In Frances’ time, it was for students in grades 1-8, and there were often multiple grades taught in one classroom.
