Katerina Kleisner Beran
1887-1953
Katerina Kleisner was our grandfather Vaclav's youngest sister. We never knew her, as she lived in Ježovy her entire life. She married Josef Beran in 1908, and soon after purchased her parents' house, Nr. 31, in Ježovy. Katerina and Josef had three children: Josef (b. 1909), Anna (1910) and Vacláv (1912) Beran. Laurel met Vacláv Beran's son Josef (1944) and his wife Zdenka on her 2014 trip to Ježovy. It was then that Josef told Laurel, through an interpreter, a fascinating story about my grandfather's older brother Joseph, recounted on his profile page. Josef died in 2020, but Laurel met his daughters Alena and Eva and remains in touch.

Early Family Photographs
The Beran daughters gave Laurel these three wonderful photographs of the Beran family in the early 20th century.

Josef and Katerina (Kleisner) Beran, circa 1935
During her trip to Jeźovy in 2014, Laurel was able to visit her second cousin Josef Beran, the grandson of Katerina Kleisner and Josef Beran, and his wife Zdenka at their house at Nr. 31. They exchanged stories (with the help of an interpreter), showed photographs, enjoyed refreshments and had a delightful time.
Josef, Laurel, Zdenka and her sister
When Josef Beran died in 2020, the family had the Beran grave site redone with a new stone, seen below. The deceased were buried vertically beneath the stone.
Here is a scan of the original 1890 census record for the Kleisner household in Ježovy (a transcription follows). It lists Katerina, her siblings and her parents Vacláv and Magdalena (Koptík) Kleisner in Nr. 31. Note that her oldest brother Joseph is already in America (Chicago) working as a backer (baker). Vacláv is working in the Louny district (northwest of Prague) as a bricklayer, and would leave the following year for Chicago.
1887: Baptism
Per the following parish record, Katerina Kleisner was born on 23 Jan 1887 at Nr. 31 and baptized a day later at the church in nearby Vřeskovice. She was delivered by her grandmother Anna (Hasenöhrl) Kleisner (1818-1893), wife of Josef, and father of her father Václav. Also in this record are the dates of her death, 12 Sep 1953, and burial on 16 Sep.
